The Story

Thirty years in rooms where
the story had to work.

I spent years as a network television executive overseeing 350 episodes of hit series — buying shows, selling shows, working alongside some of the greatest writers in the business.

I’ve had shows that ran for seasons and shows that were cancelled after three episodes. The failures taught me more than the hits ever did. When a show fails fast, you can’t blame the execution or the marketing. You have to go back to the story itself and ask the hardest question in any creative room: why didn’t the audience care?

The answer is almost always the same. The people making it were more interested in what they wanted to say than in what the audience needed to feel.

I spent the next eighteen years testing that insight in very different rooms. Nine years leading a state agency. Five years in client development at a Big Four accounting firm. I founded CorEscent Group because I kept seeing the same problem everywhere I went.
